In the dangerous world of Vardoran, acquiring essential refining materials is crucial for advancing your vampiric empire. Among these foundational resources, the whetstone plays a pivotal role in early-to-mid-game progression, enabling higher-tier crafting and gear improvements. Understanding how to acquire and produce this item will ensure your survival against increasingly difficult threats.
Unlocking the Whetstone Crafting Recipe
Before you can craft whetstones at your castle, you must unlock the required recipe by defeating a specific V Blood boss. Track down Grayson the Armourer, a level 27 boss located at the Bandit Armory in Farbane Woods. Once you defeat him and extract his V Blood, the crafting blueprint for whetstones will automatically unlock for your base.
Required Ingredients and Crafting Stations
To produce a whetstone, you will need to process specific raw materials inside a Furnace or Advanced Furnace. Each whetstone requires one Copper Ingot and twelve Stone Dust items. Copper Ingots are made by smelting copper ore, while Stone Dust is obtained as a byproduct when grinding stone into bricks.
Essential Uses for Whetstones in V Rising
Whetstones are primarily required to build early crafting stations, most notably the Grinder. Constructing a Grinder takes four whetstones, alongside copper ingots and wooden planks. Additionally, whetstones are used to forge Merciless Copper weapons, allowing players to significantly raise their gear score.
Alternative Ways to Get Whetstones Early
If you have not yet defeated Grayson the Armourer, you can still collect whetstones by raiding enemy encampments. Raiding the Bandit Armory or Bandit Stronghold yields frequent whetstone drops from enemies, chests, and breakable barrels. Clearing these areas repeatedly provides enough resources to build your first Grinder before you start mass-producing them.
